1.1. Introduction

This course is focused on skills related to self-evaluation of teaching and implementation of educational improvement processes. Students will learn how to evaluate various aspects of the teaching practice and to analyze research articles to learn some experiences carried out for music teachers. They will implement strategies that can improve the processes based on problem detection, research and educational innovation to solve it. Students will develop an evaluation or innovation experience in the field of musical education that will be applied during the Practicum III. They will learn how to write their experience as a paper prepared for publication. Thus they will know all the research process. In short, this course aims to provide an initial experience that encourages future teachers to integrate the research work as part of their professional development

2.1. Learning goals

To pass this course the student must demonstrate the following results:

1- To understand the concepts of evaluation, innovation and educational research to argue their role in the educational process.

2- To identify and analyze some problems of teaching and learning in music education.

3- To analyse evaluation, innovation and research proposals in the field of music education.

4- To critically assess research articles in pedagogy of musical expression.

5. To describe the basic procedures of some research methodologies applied to music education.

6. To design a teacher or educational innovation evaluation proposal for music teaching.

7- To write a report based on the course, with methodological rigor, technical accuracy, logical order and academic terminology.

5.3. Syllabus

The course will address the following topics:

  1. Concepts of evaluation, educational innovation and research.
  2. Evaluation, innovation and educational research in the field of music education.
  3. Methodologies for educational research.
  4. Evaluation of musical teaching.
  5. Design of evaluation or innovation projects contextualized in the field of the Practicum III.
  6. Analysis, study and application of articles on educational innovation, research and evaluation.
  7. Transfer of results. Guidelines for writing research articles.
